About

Designing spaces is, above all, about understanding people.

Interior design

Alejandro Alonso Porfidio

I have always felt a particular connection with spaces and with the way they can shape our emotions, our habits and how we live. Some places give us a sense of calm, others inspire us, and some, over time, become part of our story. That ability of spaces to create feeling and stay in our memory is what drew me to design and what, even now, drives my work.

My professional path began in 2006, when I started studying Architecture. During that time I gained a technical and spatial understanding that let me grasp the fundamentals of construction and how spaces are organised. It was my first professional experience in an architecture studio, though, that marked a turning point. There I saw how ideas become real projects, how the needs of each brief are resolved, and how design decisions shape the final result directly.

It was also during that experience that I discovered my real passion for interior design. I realised I wanted to go deeper into a dimension closer to people: the relationship between the space, the objects, the materials, the light and those who inhabit them. So I continued my training by studying Interior Design, a discipline that let me develop a more personal outlook and understand design as a balance between aesthetics, function and wellbeing.

A way of looking that starts with people

I believe every project should begin with a conversation. Before thinking about layouts, materials or colours, I want to know the person behind the brief. How they live, what their routines are, what they need, what inspires them, and which small details make a place feel truly theirs.

I like to listen, observe and understand. I consider that connection essential if a proposal is to go beyond an attractive image and respond, in a real way, to each client's needs. For me, designing is not about imposing a style. It is about interpreting a way of living and translating it into a space with an identity of its own.

I am attentive to detail, approachable and adaptable. I enjoy exploring possibilities, looking for solutions and taking care of the things that, however small they sometimes seem, can transform the experience of a space completely. My aim is that every decision has a reason, and that the final result reflects both the functional needs of the project and the personality of the people who will enjoy it.

Nature, materials and light as inspiration

My aesthetic sensibility finds a particular inspiration in nature, natural materials and colour combinations that can convey freshness, serenity and balance. I am drawn to spaces that invite you to pause, breathe and step away from the pace of everyday life, without giving up function or a defined visual identity.

I understand light as one of the essential elements of interior design. Its intensity, its direction and the way it changes through the day can alter the perception of a room completely. I am inspired, for instance, by the light that washes a room at dawn, the warmth a material takes on in the sun, or the contrast that appears between different textures.

Materials, colours, proportions and layout are not isolated elements: together they build an experience. That is why I am interested in how they relate to one another and what sensations they can create. Although my personal inclination leans towards spaces connected with nature, I understand that every project has its own language and that my work is to adapt to it, exploring different styles and solutions according to each client's preferences and needs.

An experience that widened how I understand spaces

My personal story is also part of how I see things as a designer. Emigrating from Venezuela to Europe meant facing a different setting, discovering new cultures and understanding other ways of living and of relating to spaces.

That change taught me to observe from another perspective, to adapt and to value the particularities that make each person and each home unique. Customs, culture, surroundings and personal experience all influence how we inhabit a place. Understanding those differences has let me broaden my view of design and reinforce an idea I consider essential: no two people are the same, so there should not be identical solutions for all of them.

This experience has strengthened my interest in creating spaces that do not answer only to trends, but make sense for the people who live in them and can stay with them over time.

From the concept to a proposal you can see

My work covers different stages of the design process, from developing ideas and planning the space to representing it through drawings, three-dimensional modelling and renders. These tools let me explore alternatives, study materials and proportions, and help each client understand the proposal better before it is built.

I also consider dialogue during the process essential. I want people to feel accompanied, to understand the decisions being made and to take an active part in shaping their project. Communication and attention to detail are part of how I work, because I believe a good result comes from professional judgement, collaboration and an honest understanding of the client's expectations.

Each new brief is a chance to learn, to discover possibilities and to find different solutions. I am as interested in the challenge of making the most of a space as in the chance to give form to an idea that does not yet exist, adapting to the particularities of each project.

Creating places that last

My aim as an interior designer is to develop spaces that accompany people in their day-to-day life, that meet their needs and that allow them to feel comfortable, recognised and in harmony with their surroundings.

I aspire to create small oases within the routine: places in which to switch off, share, rest, enjoy and build memories. Spaces that not only have an aesthetic presence, but also convey something and keep their meaning over time.

I understand interior design as a chance to leave a mark through design, not necessarily through grand gestures, but also through subtle decisions, well-chosen materials, carefully studied light or a layout that makes life simpler.

Because, in the end, my purpose is not simply to transform spaces. It is to understand what each person needs and turn that into a place they can feel is their own.
