Walkthrough of the study, from the desk to the reading corner by the window

They needed somewhere to work at home that did not feel like an improvised annex. I designed a full room of walnut carpentry: wardrobe, shelving with lit glass cabinets, niches and a floating desk with a green stone top. The room works on its own; it does not depend on a loose piece of furniture to function.

By the window I left a reading corner: a low armchair, a side table and the mushroom lamp that appears in almost every view. It is not a hotel office; it is somewhere you can also stop. The view of the classical building opposite does the rest.

Detail of the walnut carpentry and of the lighting integrated into shelves and ceiling

Almost all the lighting is integrated: a perimeter strip in the ceiling, LEDs under the desk modules and light inside the glass cabinets. By day the window leads; by night the carpentry switches itself on and the room stays usable without turning on a ceiling light.

Final shot of the study with late-afternoon daylight

A study small in square metres and large in use: work, store and look out of the window without changing rooms. The carpentry does the heavy lifting; the rest is light, views and a couple of well-chosen pieces.
