The flat sits in the Ventas neighbourhood of Madrid and works as a short-stay rental for travellers from all over the world. The client, a company specialising in temporary lets, asked me to renovate the bathroom so it would lift the guest experience without breaking with the style of the rest of the home.
The brief was clear: deliver comfort and a sense of wellbeing without making the room hard to maintain. Because guests only stay a few nights, storage was not a priority. Durability, design and a feeling of luxury very much were.
I chose materials that suggest nature and calm: a textured porcelain floor in walnut tones, able to take constant footfall without losing its looks, and beige microcement walls that bring continuity, warmth and an impeccably clean finish.
The walk-in shower, with its glass screen and black framing, becomes the visual anchor of the room. Its cladding imitates natural stone with organic veining in earth tones, giving the space character and echoing the design language of the rest of the apartment.
The basin is integrated into a seamless countertop, which reinforces the clean, refined look. Matt black tapware and a few decorative touches — candles, diffusers, plants — lift the experience and convey care and attention to detail.
Every decision was made to hold aesthetics and function together: hard-wearing materials, surfaces that are easy to keep clean, and an atmosphere that combines modernity, calm and quality. The result is a bathroom that fits the spirit of the flat and the experience of whoever is staying in it.
